Your Role and Responsibilities
The Operational Support Systems (OSS) Platform Tools & Engineering organization is focused on providing a consistent operations framework that spans the Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL), Change Management, Incident Management and Problem Management categories with turnkey tooling for problem detection, alerting, event correlation, incident creation, etc. If you would like to join a team of highly skilled software developers who have deep Cloud development and Operations/DevOps skills, are comfortable with Agile, have strong communication/teaming skills, and are looking to make a difference, then why not apply.

This role will work with the larger OSS, globally located, development teams as well as stake holders from the public Cloud architecture guild, many service SRE teams, the availability managers and Cloud executive stakeholders. The focus of this role will be on the Netcool/Omnibus service level management (SLM) system, hosted and operated by OSS for the benefit of IBM Cloud.

This exciting new role is a combination of a Development, Operations, and Site Reliability Engineering. You need to be proficient in software development with an emphasis on microservices using cloud languages and scripting. The preference for OSS being Go and Bash, Node.js and Python are acceptable. You must be familiar with API design (REST) and implementation. The applicant should have experience with build / open source tooling (Git, Zen, Jenkins, etc.), testing methodologies/practices and automation, and working experience in an Agile and continuous delivery environment. You should be familiar with secure application development practices. It is recommended that You be familiar in UI/UX development and knowledge of React, Angular, or CSS, is a plus. OSS Developers provide Operations and Support for the OSS Services. OSS follows the “you build it, you own it” philosophy with a minimum of 30% of sprint cycles reserved for DevOps / internal client support.

Required Technical and Professional Expertise
  • Netcool/OMNIbus development, operations, and problem determination/isolation
  • Cloud microservices development, REST APIs, Kubernetes.
  • Languages: Go (GoLang), Node.js is a plus
  • Scripting: Bash, Python is a plus
  • Build tooling and Continuous Integration and Deployment (CI/CD) principles
  • Agile development skills and methodologies, familiar with GitHub and Zenhub

  • Jenkins, React JS, Carbon components framework
  • Automated unit & integration testing
  • Secure development practices
  • System and application monitoring tools, NewRelic, Sysdig, and Prometheus
  • Log management tools, LogDNA
